Got Dared to Run and was Hooked; An Interview with Robert (@running_fatass)

Name: Robert

Instagram Handle: @running_fatass

Day Job: Retail Manager

AER: How long have you been running? Most proud accomplishment?

Robert: I've been running for about 5 years. All started by a "dare" to sign up for the Inaugural Star Wars 10k at Disney bc I'm such a huge SW fan. Never ran a day in my life before I agreed. My most proud accomplishment is running my first half 2 years later.

AER: Do you find balance through running? If so, how?

Robert: I always used to say that running was a stress relief for me. Then one day someone asked if I was really that stressed all the time. Truth is no. It helps when I am, but not the reason.  My balance is setting a good example to my kids that you can achieve anything you want if you put the work in.

AER: Tips for keeping the beard strong?

Robert: Hahaha....keep it trimmed, conditioned and oiled!

AER: Tell us something that we don't know about you or would be surprised to hear?

Robert: I was forced to play the accordion as a kid. My wife found out and never let's me forget it 🤣

AER: What are some of your immediate running goals right now? Ultimate long term goal?

Robert: My goal is to run my first Full Marathon within the next 12-18 months. No real long term...just to have the ability to continue to run.

AER: Which Marathon(s) are you looking at to be your first full?

Robert: My Bucket List Full is Chicago. One day I'll make it there. I'm eyeing either Disney or Miami Full 2021 for my first one.

AER: Favorite recovery food after a long run?

Robert: No hesitation....Tacos & Beer!  But also plain bagel with PB and Bananas is my jam with some Chocolate Milk!!

AER: Would you recommend Disney races?

Robert: 1,000% Yes!!  They are the most fun!  You go there to have fun, take pictures, hang with awesome friends etc. I've never gone expecting to PR (although I did PR the Wine & Dine 10k in 2018)

AER: How many halves have you run? Which was your favorite race?

Robert: I've done 9 Halfs with #10 coming up quick on 12/1 (Space Coast in Cocoa Beach, Florida).  This will be my first time running this one and I'm so excited. I've heard nothing but great things and it's like 1 big party so I can't think of a better one to be my 10th Half!!  I'll be rocking my new Red Alter Ego hat for that one!  My favorite so far would have to be Star Wars at Disney (mainly bc I'm such a big Star Wars dork)
